We understand the importance of constructing energy-efficient homes that contribute to a healthier and more sustainable living environment, as well as a significantly smaller energy bill.

What is a High Performance Home?

A high performance home is designed + built to use significantly less energy than a standard home. They are constructed mindfully with a focus on airtightness, insulation, and ventilation. High performance homes utilize many or all of the techniques and strategies of a passive house, but are not certified by the Passive House Institute. These extra details prevent rotten siding, as well as rotten framing around windows and doors, which are common in a code built home within a matter of a few years. For example, Performance Builders uses windows designed to last 50-100 years, compared to average code windows that typically last 10-20. High performance homes are all about the detailing that makes the building envelope. The benefits include super quiet interiors, improved air quality, steady temperatures and no drafty or chilly spaces.

What is a Net-Zero House?

A high performance house, that with the use of a renewable energy source, over the course of a year, produces as much energy as is consumed by the home.

Health Benefits of High Performance Homes

  • High performance homes are designed to be airtight, which means that they require a mechanical ventilation system to maintain good indoor air quality. This ventilation system filters out pollutants and allergens, ensuring that the air inside the home is clean and healthy.

  • High performance homes are built with materials that are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful chemicals. This reduces the amount of toxins that are released into the home's indoor air, which can improve overall health and reduce the risk of respiratory problems and other health issues.

  • The thick insulation and airtight construction of high performance homes also helps to reduce noise pollution from outside the home. This can help to improve overall quality of life, especially for those who live in noisy urban areas.

  • High performance homes are designed to maintain a comfortable indoor environment, which includes controlling the humidity levels. This can help prevent mold growth and reduce the risk of respiratory problems like asthma and allergies.

Our Happy Customers

"Anthony has completed several major and minor renovation and replacement projects for me during the past 10 years. His attention to detail is outstanding and he’s always responsible for finding good subcontractors when he does not do the work himself. His timelines are realistic, he has always finished jobs by the deadlines he’s set, and he was always available for follow-up questions.”
